Cutting the Ice in Norway

“When the pianist Hélène Grimaud performed the middle movement of Ravel’s Piano Concerto so quietly and poetically receiving such a soft response from the orchestra … one was lifted out of normal day life and taken to a special place” So wrote Norway’s Dagbladet of the opening gala concert of the new concert hall in Stavanger adding “My heart swelled. Glad. Proud. And touched. A concert in Stavanger will never be the same again.”

Joining Hélène Grimaud for the opening concert were a string of acclaimed artists and you can see portions of each performance, including Hélène’s performance of Ravel, on NRK’s website
