France’s Le Monde national paper has reviewed Hélène Grimaud and Sol Gabetta’s new Duo recording paying tribute to a “beautiful encounter” which is at once “subtle and deeply nostalgic” (Schumann), “explosive yet moving” (Brahms) “voluptously sarcastic” (Debussy) and “adorned with a stimulating incadesence” (Shostakovich). The final tribute “Gabetta and Grimaud – a duet with two G’s as in “genius”.

Album review: The Arts Fuse
Grimaud, a pianist whose grasp of the Romantic sensibility (especially the willingness to risk and commit all in pursuit of an artistic goal) is total, has a field day with it here. From the downbeat of the stormy, rhythmically a-blur “Äusserst bewegt,” this is a Kreisleriana that holds nothing back.
