Hélène Grimaud and Sol Gabetta in Baden-Baden

“Melodic fragments, dry pizzicato, wistful glissando, violent dynamic contrasts … every gesture was designed with maximum voltage and an inner voice … This expressive interpretation of Debussy’s Cello Sonata, where the two musicians come together for intense interaction, combines the strength of the two musicians.” So wrote www.klassik.com of the opening concert by Héléne Grimaud and Sol Gabetta, the first of this month’s tour. Of the Brahms sonata klassik.com went on to comment on the “surprisingly delicate side that you rarely get to hear in this autumnal, sonorous work .”
