On 7 November Hélène Grimaud will perform a recital programme in LA’s prestigious Walt Disney Concert Hall featuring music from her 2010 album Resonances – a musical journey through the Austro Hungarian empire. As 7 November is also Hélène’s birthday this is likely to be a special event and one that has not been overlooked by the Los Angeles Broadway World.
Grimaud, a pianist whose grasp of the Romantic sensibility (especially the willingness to risk and commit all in pursuit of an artistic goal) is total, has a field day with it here. From the downbeat of the stormy, rhythmically a-blur “Äusserst bewegt,” this is a Kreisleriana that holds nothing back.
