Music in Hong Kong – Venues, Events and Music Listings – Time Out Hong Kong | HKICMF: Helene Grimaud reviewCity Hall Concert Hall, Tuesday January 22 It's not just that Helene Grimaud has a beautiful tone, it's that each key sparks to life at her touch. Her playing is spiritual and all consuming. She is a generous performer, holding nothing back, leaving the audience on the edge of their seats, leaning towards the concert stage as if to get closer to her musical life-force. Her rendition of Mozart's Piano Sonata No 8 in A minor, written at the time of his mother's death, was heartbreakingly beautiful. She communicates Mozart's lament, from across the centuries with a sense of great humility and tenderness. The agitation of his grief and the longing for something lost are not only expressed in the strong rhythmical left hand passages of the Allegro Maestoso or the airy scale passages of the second movement but in something undefined within the performer's musical voice.
